Glaze Testing July 2024
Finally, back at the studio and one of my first tasks was glaze testing! I picked up a new white clay [240G White w/ Grog] and wanted to find a couple core glazes that would work for me. I was able to test quite a few. So, I have some Go's, No-Go's and Honorable mentions [links at the bottom]:
Go's:
1. Birch by Mayco. I've loved this glaze on my black pieces, so I was a bit nervous on what to expect on white clay.
2. Rainforest by Mayco. SO impressed with how this turned out. It's exciting and full of wonder. I WILL be using this as soon as I can.
3. Cosmic oil spot by Amaco. I've used this before on black clay. BLOWN away with how it looks here. It's lightly applied and brushed on. VERY cool what colors this white clay puuuullls out of the glaze. Will be doing more with this one.
No-Go's:

Seaweed - too muddy
Aventurine - too dark, lacking depth
Sea Glass - very clumpy, I have not been able to avoid the clumping with this glaze.
Honorable Mentions:

Chai Gloss - Reliable glaze that has not affected by the clay change.
Himalayan Salt - beautiful glaze but not enough visual contrast to the white clay.
Champagne Quartz - I love this glaze and its depth, so I'll keep this in my back pocket!
